WHISTLE STOP CAFÉ WINS HERITAGE PLACE JUVENILE AT REMINGTON PARK
OKLAHOMA CITY – May 31, 2020 – Whistle Stop Café didn’t make the lucrative Grade 1 Heritage Place Futurity final on Saturday night at Remington Park but did continue her undefeated career, scoring in the $100,000 Heritage Place Juvenile.
A trial winner on May 8, Whistle Stop Café didn’t post a 350-yard trial time fast enough to qualify for the $826,260 Heritage Place Futurity. However, that trial attempt was acceptable to put the 2-year-filly into the juvenile, which she won by a nose after taking the lead halfway through the race.
Owned by Whitmire Ranch of Sallisaw, Okla. and trained by Blane Wood, jockey Ricky Ramirez had the mount on the gray filly, as he had in her trial. After a good start, Whistle Stop Café battled until making the front, then had to dig in to hold off Diane To Be A Hero who moved with her for the final 150 yards. A daughter of Freighttrain B from the Mr Jess Perry mare Sinuous, Whistle Stop Café hit the finish in :17.616 over the fast track for a speed index of 87.
Diane To Be A Hero held second while Apollitical Bird was another neck behind in third.
The wagering favorite at 3-1 odds, Whistle Stop Café paid $8 to win, $4.20 to place and $3.60 to show. Diane To Be A Hero returned $8.40 to place and $5 to show. Apollitical Bird paid 3 to show.
The victory was worth $26,880 to boost the two-race career earnings for Whistle Stop Café to $35,718. She was bred in Texas by Bobby Cox.
