VESPER MARTINI WINS SPEEDHORSE GRAHAM STAKES AT REMINGTON PARK
OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – May 31, 2025 – The Grade 1 Speedhorse Graham Paint & Appaloosa Stakes led off the 12-race program for Champions Night on Saturday, May 31, the final night of the 2025 Remington Park spring season. Vesper Martini used a sharp start and straight run to power to a half-length victory in the event for 3-year-olds.
Owned by 918 Bloodstock of Inola, Okla. and trained by Dee Keener, Vesper Martini was ridden by Roman Cruz. The 3-year-old filly managed to stay on the lead throughout, holding off slight late challenges by her outside rivals. Moving along the rail, Vesper Martini hit the finish in :17.618 over the fast track for a speed index of 90.
WF Apolitical Bullet was second while WF Jess Candy was third, another neck behind the runner-up. The top three finishers are all trained by Keener, who equaled the Remington Park record for training wins with 53 when Vesper Martini hit the finish line.
Vesper Martini was the 7-5 wagering favorite, paying $4.80 to win, $2.80 to place and $2.20 to show.
This was the fifth victory in the Speedhorse Graham Stakes for Keener. He also won the race last year with R Cowgirl and in 2022, 2019 and 2017. It was the first win in the Speedhorse Graham Stakes for both Cruz and 918 Bloodstock.
The remaining order of finish in the Speedhorse Graham Stakes after the top three finishers: Chief Iron Eagle, the lone appaloosa in the race, 4th; Shadowing PT, 5th; Knuckle Buster, 6th; and Jessys Hero, 7th and last.
Js Ima Fancy Chicken was a scratch.
Vesper Martini is a 3-year-old Paint filly by Painted Turnpike from the Red Storm Cat (qh) broodmare Martinis N Bikinis (qh). She was bred in Oklahoma by Garvan Kelly and Lloyd Yother. The Speedhorse win was her seventh from 13 career starts to go along with three second-place efforts and one other in third-place. The winner’s share of the $20,000 purse, $11,400, boosts her lifetime bankroll to $123,432.
