UNCURLED FIST WON BATTLE OF HORSES FOR COURSE AT REMINGTON PARK, EDGING JOHNNY DE CAPO IN FEATURED RACE
OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – March 15, 2021 – Johnny de Capo had won three-of-five races at Remington Park and Uncurled Fist had won two-of-four in Oklahoma City; something had to give Sunday night between these two horses for the course.
In the end, in the featured optional allowance race that carried a purse $25,650, only a neck separated the two with Uncurled Fist on top and headed to the winner’s circle. Eyesa Forrest also was a neck behind the winner as he dead-heated for second with Johnny de Capo.
Uncurled Fist, a 5-year-old son of One Famous Eagle, out of the PYC Paint Your Wagon mare Cruzin the Wagon, improved to three-of-five at Remington Park. He won $14,204 for his owner, MJR Investments of Edinburg, Texas. The win moved his racing record to 14 starts, three wins, one second and one third for $51,541 in earnings. He was bred in Oklahoma by Reliance Ranches.
Uncurled Fist covered the 300 yards over a fast track in :15.429, good for an 89-speed index. He went off at 11-1 odds and paid $24.40, $9.60 and $6.40 across the board to win, place and show. His Remington Park record is five starts with three wins and $40,339 in his local bankroll. He has won two in a row in Oklahoma City, dating back to his final attempt in May 2020 when he won an allowance event.
Uncurled Fist was one of two winners for trainer Clint Crawford on the night and for jockey Jorge Torres. The two victories for Torres put him into the riding lead at Remington Park as he sits with seven. It broke a tie with Francisco Calderon and Juan Pulido who are tied for second with six apiece. It also vaulted Crawford into a tie with defending champion trainer Eddie Willis as they both have seven wins to lead the standings for conditioners.
Remington Park live racing continues with a Thursday-Sunday schedule, March 18-21 with the first race nightly at 6pm-Central. The 80th edition of the Grade 2 Oklahoma Futurity, worth $477,200, will lead a stakes-laden program on Saturday, March 20.
