TRAINER JASON OLMSTEAD, JOCKEY EDWIN ESCOBEDO COMBINE FOR THREE WINS TOGETHER, INCLUDING FEATURE WITH DICKEY BOB

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – March 10, 2022 – It was quite a year for trainer Jason Olmstead in 2021, and this year just got a lot nicer as he and jockey Edwin Escobedo combined to win three races on Thursday at Remington Park, including the feature with a horse named Dickey Bob.

Last year, Olmstead was voted the American Quarter Horse Association’s Blane Schvaneveldt Champion Trainer across the nation for 2021 and he continued his winning ways Friday. Dickey Bob, a 7-year-old gelding by Apollitical Jess, out of the PYC Paint Your Wagon mare Paint Or More, won the featured allowance race by a neck in the first half of the Daily Double. Olmstead and Escobedo then went ahead to take the second half of the late wager with Apolitical Sass ($4.60 to win). Earlier they had won together in the first race of the day with Political Speed ($5.40) that started their afternoon triple.

It was the 20th win in 40 lifetime starts for Dickey Bob. The veteran covered the 300 yards in allowance company, stopping the timer in :15.360 for a speed index of 93 as the 2-1 betting favorite. He finished ahead of Rolling Along (5-1), who was a full length ahead of the third-place finisher Johnny de Capo (7-2).

Dickey Bob put $16,332 into the pocket of Lunderborg LLC (Bruce Lunderborg of Gibbon, Minn.) from the $30,180 purse for open allowance horses, 3-years-old and older. Dickey Bob improved his career record to 40-20-5-3 for earnings of $325,456. He has won three stakes races in his last 12 starts. The gelding won the $39,000 Cash Caravan Stakes at Canterbury in Minnesota the past two years in a row in August 2020-21. He also had a black-type win in the Bob Morehouse Stakes at Canterbury in August 2020.

Dickey Bob has now won at the 300-yard distance five-of-nine times. He was bred in Minnesota by his owner. He paid $6.20, $2.80 and $2.80 across the board to win, place and show. He produced the winning time with a tailwind of 23 mph over a fast track.

AQHA WORLD CHAMPION DANJER GETS FIRST OFFICIAL WORKOUT OF MEET

Owner-trainer-breeder Dean Frey sent his AQHA World Champion, Danjer, to the track Thursday morning for his first official workout of the meet. Frey bred this monster of a Quarter Horse, trains him, and owns him in partnership with Downtime Enterprises and Billy G. Smith.

Danjer got a near bullet work as the 6-year-old gelded son of FDD Dynasty, out of the Take Off Jess mare Shez Jess Toxic, breezed 220 yards on the run in :11.70 seconds over the fast surface. The bullet work (fastest) of the day at that distance was :11.51 handily by Miss Beth Dutton and Stones Follies with the same time. Only six horses of 25 had a slightly faster time on Thursday in workouts at 220.

Danjer, with regular rider Cody Smith, won five races and finished second in photo finishes in two other races last year in his championship season. He has won 10 stakes races in his career, and won stakes at five different tracks last year.

Danjer started his title year with a runner-up finish in the Grade 1 Leo Stakes at Remington Park on May 1. After that loss, Danjer won the $320,000 Debbie Schauf Remington Park Championship on May 29 here. He then went to Canterbury in Minnesota and won the $52,000 Championship Challenge on July 6, then the $200,000 All American Gold Cup at Ruidoso Downs in New Mexico, the $266,000 Championship Challenge at the Downs at Albuquerque and finished his campaign with a victory in the $248,000 Refrigerator Stakes at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie, Texas.
