TOP QUALIFIER PIANO MAN SAM IS MORNING-LINE FAVORITE IN OKLAHOMA FUTURITY

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – March 23, 2023 – The 82nd renewal of the Oklahoma Futurity is set for Saturday, March 25 at Remington Park. The Grade 2 event headlines a racing program with a total of eight stakes races and total purses of $1,255,630 for the 12 races overall.

The $533,270 purse for the Oklahoma Futurity is the richest in the history of the race, conducted at Remington Park every spring since 2006. The race is the longest-running futurity in American Quarter Horse racing, first held in 1947.

Piano Man Sam, the top qualifier throughout 17 trials for the Oklahoma Futurity on March 11, has been made the 3-1 morning-line favorite at 3-1 odds.

Owned by Shelley Goodnight of Park Hill, Okla., Piano Man Sam is a 2-year-old gelded son of Tres Seis, out of the PYC Paint Your Wagon mare Paint Your Pie. Shelley also bred her speedster in Oklahoma. He is trained by Kevin Goodnight and will be ridden by Alonso Rivera who handled him in his top trial run, the 17th and final on trials night.

The second morning-line favorite for the 300-yard Oklahoma Futurity is PYC Legacy at 7-2 odds. Owned by Rito Sosa of Blanchard, Okla., PYC Legacy is trained by Waylan Melton who also qualified Fun N Fire (6-1) and Fly On Sister (15-1) to the Oklahoma Futurity.

The Oklahoma Futurity is the ninth of 12 races on Saturday evening, scheduled at 9:36pm. The other stakes events include:

  • Race 10, Grade 3, $234,860 Oklahoma Derby
  • Race 11, Grade 2, $50,000 Decketta Stakes

The Oklahoma Futurity card also represents the initial contest night for the Easy Money Chase in 2023. Remington Park racing takes place Thursday through Sunday, March 23-26, with the first race nightly at 6pm. Sunday racing begins at 4pm. All times are Central.
