SIGNS OF LIVEWIRE POSTS FASTEST QUALIFYING FOR SPEEDHORSE GRAHAM PAINT & APPALOOSA FUTURITY
OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – May 16, 2022 – Signs of Livewire continues to validate himself as the top 2-year-old Paint horse on the grounds at Remington Park, winning for the third time in as many starts this season, posting the fastest time in trials for the Grade 1 Speedhorse Graham Futurity on Saturday night.
The Speedhorse Graham is for juvenile Paints and Appaloosas with the final on closing night, Saturday, May 28, one of 10 stakes races scheduled that night. The 10 qualifiers competing for the major futurity award are all Paints.
Jockey Jesus Salazar has had a resurgent meet this year only three years removed from a near-fatal truck accident that required multiple surgeries on both legs. Already a winner of three stakes races this meet, Salazar was aboard Signs of Livewire who may provide him another stakes event to take down in this Speedhorse Graham Futurity.
The 2-year-old Paint colt, trained by the all-time winningest Paint trainer Dee Keener, is 3-for-3 to start his young career. He has earned $97,294 in those starts and is sired by CRM Livewire, who has been extremely proficient in throwing Paints that are stakes winners. On the dam side, the mare Signs of PYC (QH) was sired by PYC Paint Your Wagon (QH). This undefeated colt is owned by Jeff Adams of Durant, Okla., and was bred in Oklahoma by Alexia Willis.
Signs of Livewire’s winning time at 350 yards in the Speedhorse Graham trials was two-tenths of a second faster than the second overall fastest qualifier, Livewires Turnpike. They received speed indexes of 96 and 90, respectively. From those two, the speed indexes for the next eight qualifiers dropped into the 80s. Signs of Livewire was so dominant over the fast Remington Park surface, he won his trial by three lengths over PFR Quickwire, who also managed to qualify.
The four Speedhorse Graham trials were conducted into a light headwind ranging from 5-7mph.
The following were the 10 fastest qualifiers Saturday with times, speed index, trial number, jockey and trainer:
1) Signs of Livewire, :17.420, 96, trial two, Jesus Salazar, Dee Keener
9) Electric Tales, :17.936, 81, trial two, Francisco Calderon, Ty Blackwell
10) RP Dirty Barracuda, :17.980, 80, trial two, Cody Wainscott, Ray Enlow
