SHEZ WIRED UP WINS FOR THIRD TIME IN FOUR TRIES, TAKING VICTORIA ENNIS MEMORIAL
OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – April 26, 2021 – Shez Wired Up continues to build a reputation as a winner, making it to the winner’s circle Saturday night in the $27,375 Victoria Ennis Memorial Stakes at Remington Park.
It was the third win in four tries for the 2-year-old Paint filly and her first stakes victory. Remington Park’s current seasonal leading rider Juan Pulido was quickly in front of this field of nine Paints after breaking third. Shez Wired Up extended her lead with each step until she won by three-quarters of a length at the wire.
The only time this 2-year-old daughter of CRM Livewire, out of the Jesse James Jr (QH) mare Sheza Pretty Jesse (QH) has lost was in the Grade 1, $198,100 Oklahoma Paint & Appaloosa Futurity on March 20. She had qualified for that final by winning her trial and then was first in the trials for the Grade 1, $159,500 American Paint Classic Futurity. However, she didn’t qualify for the Paint Classic as her time of :17.853 seconds for 350 yards was not fast enough to get into the top 10 fastest times.
Owner Maddie Devereaux of Meeker, Okla., and trainer Troy Carter then put her in the Victoria Ennis Stakes and she won easily at 330 yards. Shez Wired Up was sent off as the 2-1 wagering favorite and hit the finish line in :17.001, earning a speed index of 83. She paid $6.40 to win, $4.40 to place and $3.40 to show. DTL Hot Wired (8-1 odds) ran second and was a head in front of third-place finisher Capo Cabana (8-1). The co-favorite at 2-1 odds, De Quick Capo, could do no better than a fifth-place finish. The remaining finishers in the Victoria Ennis Memorial were Turnpikes Judy (4th), I Ama Travelin Apple (6th), A Painted Zevi (7th), Windys Slickwire (8th) and CL Painted Shadows (9th).
Shez Wired Up earned $15,825 from the purse and improved her career record to four starts with three wins for a total bankroll of $32,344. The filly was bred in Oklahoma by Art Devereaux.
The race is named for horsewoman Ennis, an Oklahoman who was a member of the Appaloosa Horse Club Hall of Fame and a prominent breeder and owner for many years before her passing in 2009.
Remington Park racing continues Sunday, April 25 with the first race at 6pm-Central.
