RP RECKLESS WIRE FINALLY BREAKS THROUGH FOR STAKES WIN IN AMERICAN PAINT STAKES

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – May 1, 2022 – RP Reckless Wire had been beaten less than a length in all five of her tries against stakes horses, but Sunday evening she finally got the job done, winning her first black-type race in the Grade 1, $34,350 American Paint Stakes at Remington Park.

This 3-year-old Paint filly, owned by Roy Perkins of Vernon, Texas, ran in four futurities last year and lost by a half-length, a half-length, a neck and three-quarters of a length. Two of those came at Remington Park last spring with the next two near-hits at Fair Meadows in Tulsa, Okla., and Claremore. In her 3-year-old debut here in Oklahoma City, she hit the hard-luck skid row again, finishing second by a nose to Js Runnin Wire in the Speedhorse Graham Paint and Appaloosa Stakes on March 19.

RP Reckless Wire would face Js Runnin Wire again Sunday night, but this time the daughter of CRM Livewire, out of the Reckless Dash (QH) mare RP Miss Reckess Dash (QH), kept that nose all the way in front in the renewed battle to the wire. Jockey Cody Wainscott pushed her to the limit to get her the first stakes win of her career for trainer Ray Enlow.

“She always is hard-knocking,” Wainscott said. “She does really well in trials and just barely misses in the finals; never worse than third. She came out of the gate kind of humped up tonight, but once she got her feet under her and on the ground, she was gone.”

RP Reckless Wire finished a neck in front of Js Runnin Wire this time and stopped the timer for 350 yards in :17.682 on the fast track for a speed index of 89. She ran her record to 13 starts, five wins, four seconds and four thirds for $122,002 in earnings.

The winner earned $15,375 for Perkins. He was grateful that she finally broke through as a stakes winner and that she seems to get better with each start.

“I really can’t believe she hadn’t won a stakes yet,” said Perkins, who owns her and bred her. He owns the dam (mother), Rp Miss Reckess Dash (QH). “The mother has been a super broodmare. She’s already produced about $300,000 for me. So proud of her. She gave me RP Livewire Dash, who made about $140,000.”

RP Reckless Wire was sent off at 3-1 odds and paid $8.40 to win, $3 to place and $3 to show. Js Runnin Wire was the 8-5 betting favorite and had a half-length margin over third-place finisher Smithworks (9-2), last year’s World Champion Paint. He was making his 2022 debut in the American Paint Stakes, an event for 3-year-old Paints.

The remaining order of finish was La Toruga (4^th), Secret Livewire (5^th), Wired Four Fourty (6^th), RF Livies Livewire (7^th), Chicks Livewire (8^th) and Shez Wired Up (9^th).

Remington Park racing continues May 5-8. The Thursday and Friday night cards consist of 10 trials each night for 2-year-old American Quarter Horses trying to qualify for the finals of the state’s richest race – the $1 million Heritage Place Futurity scheduled for the final night of racing, May 28. The race was worth $1.3 million, the richest purse in Oklahoma history for a horse race, in 2021. Saturday racing will begin at Noon and feature trials for the Heritage Place Derby, followed by the simulcast of the Kentucky Derby from Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky.

Sunday racing starts at 4pm and will feature trials for the first-ever Heritage Place Oaks.
