Remington Park to Honor Three New Members to Oklahoma Horse Racing Hall of Fame
HALL OF FAME INDUCTIONS SET FOR MAY 31 AT REMINGTON PARK
OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – May 13, 2024 – Remington Park will feature three new inductees to its Oklahoma Horse Racing Hall of Fame on Friday, May 31. The new members will be honored during the races that evening.
Painted Turnpike, Debbie Schauf and Willow Ridge Farms make up the group to be inducted this season.
• Painted Turnpike
One of the all-time greatest Paint racehorses, Painted Turnpike is the only horse to receive Hall of Fame status this spring. The all-time leader in wins for an American Quarter Horse, Paint or Appaloosa at Remington Park with 13, Painted Turnpike compiled a 14-race winning streak that started in 2016 and came to an end in 2018, while racing at Remington Park, Fair Meadows Tulsa and Will Rogers Downs in Claremore, Okla.
A three-time World Champion in the Paint-racing ranks, Painted Turnpike had Remington Park winning streaks of seven (2015-2016) and six (2016-2018) to amass his local scores. He won 11 stakes races at Remington Park for his owner and breeder Nolan Pevehouse of Webbers Falls, Okla. and trainer Matt Whitekiller.
Painted Turnpike concluded his career in 2020 after running third in the Paul Harber Memorial at Remington Park. Overall, he won 26 of 31 races with three seconds and one third-place effort. At Remington Park, Painted Turnpike was out of the money only once, with 13 wins, one second and one third from 16 attempts. He finished racing with $465,442 in career earnings, the all-time record for a Paint.
• Debbie Schauf
A tireless executive serving multiple state horsemen’s groups in her career, Debbie Schauf served more than 23 years as the executive director of the Oklahoma Quarter Horse Racing Association.
Schauf’s career in horse racing started after another long career in real estate and residential home construction. Before leading state racing organizations, she managed to squeeze in four years as a state representative in her home state of Kansas. The political experience would serve her greatly as she helped lead horsemen’s associations in Kansas, California, Texas and Oklahoma.
Schauf took the reins of the OQHRA in 1996 and guided them into the era of full-card simulcasting and casino gaming at racetracks in Oklahoma. A tireless worker on behalf of her horsemen, Schauf was recognized with multiple national honors throughout her racing career before passing in 2019.
The Remington Park Championship, the top race for older American Quarter Horses locally, was renamed the Debbie Schauf Remington Park Championship in 2020.
• Willow Ridge Farms
The breeding and ownership operation out of Moore, Okla. is the only six-time leading owner during the Remington Park Quarter Horse, Paint and Appaloosa season. They led the owner standings for six consecutive years (2000-2005). No other owner has led the standings more than twice in Remington Park’s sprint season history since 1989.
Willow Ridge Farms, led by Domer Jay Scaramucci, also set a record for most wins by an owner with 18 in 2001, a season that was 37 dates in length. Amazingly, the mark still stands as Remington Park increased the Quarter Horse season to 50 dates beginning in 2006, a move that provided 150-200 more racing opportunities each year. The most wins for an owner since Willow Ridge set the standard has been 15 in 2014 by Reliance Ranches.
