REMINGTON PARK OPENING NIGHT PROGRAM COMPILED FOR MARCH 9

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK — March 6, 2023 – The 2023 American Quarter Horse, Paint and Appaloosa Season begins Thursday, March 9 at Remington Park. An eight-race program has been drawn for the first evening of the spring.

This will be the second consecutive spring season that Remington Park has started off with an eight-race card on a Thursday evening. A trio of allowance races top the events, two for Quarter Horses and the other for Paints and Appaloosas.

The seventh race allowance is the richest of the night with a purse of $28,000 and a field of 10 fillies and mares going 300 yards. Sheza Freighttrain T has the most wins of any in the race with 12 career scores. The 5-year-old mare also leads in lifetime earnings with a bankroll of $547,375. A multiple stakes winner, the Louisiana-bred by Freighttrain B from the Carters Cartel broodmare Cloning Around finished second at Remington Park in the 2022 Bob Moore Stakes, behind Relentlessly. Trainer Robi Meche conditions Sheza Freighttrain T for owner R and R Racing. Jockey Ricky Ramirez has the call.

Overall, 69 horses were entered for the first night for an 8.6 average field size. The total purses for the eight events reached $155,500.

The remainder of the opening weekend at Remington Park will feature trials competition. Friday, March 10 will have trials for the Oklahoma Paint & Appaloosa Futurity. Saturday, March 11 will host trials for the historic Oklahoma Futurity as top 2-year-olds attempt to qualify for the 82^nd edition of the longest-running futurity in the sport. Then on Sunday, March 12, trials for the Oklahoma Derby will wrap up the first four days of the season.
