by Richard Linihan

OKLAHOMA CITY, April 29, 2024 – Relentless Diamond lived up to her name, winning the Grade 2,  $81,400 Easy Date Stakes on Monday at Remington Park. She was no less than relentless and definitely a top jewel for owner Double G Ranch.

The 4-year-old mare won her third race in a row and the first stakes victory of her career. She is a daughter of Hes Relentless, out of the PYC Paint Your Wagon mare PYC Diamond. Under jockey James Flores, Relentless Diamond flew to the wire a half-length in front of everyone from the outside 10-post. Flores had booted her home to victory in her two previous races this meet at Remington Park among allowance horses.

Relentless Diamond was sent off at 7-2 odds and paid $9 to win $5.20 to place and $3.80 to show across the board. Relentless Diamond, trained by Guillermo Valdivia, earned $49,530 for the trip to the winner’s circle and improved her record to 17 starts, six wins and two seconds for a bankroll of $164,232. She was purchased for $18,000 at the 2021 Heritage Place September Yearling Sale.

Relentless Diamond stopped the timer for 350 yards in :17.297 for a 101 speed-index over a fast track. She finished a half-length ahead of runner-up Im a Fancee Chik (13-1), who was another half-length ahead of third-place finisher First Time for Wine (27-1). The completed order of finish was Pops First Lady (7-5 wagering favorite) fourth, Vytaliti (8-1) fifth, Fox News (6-1) sixth, A Dream to Fill (34-1) seventh, Eye Live for Candy (28-1) eighth, One Famous Lil Lady (9-1) ninth and Tachas Secret (9-1) 10th.

It was the second win in the stakes series for Flores and the first for the other connections. Relentless Diamond was bred in Oklahoma by Monty McNair.
