PYC DOLLARS COWBOY WINS EASY JET STAKES AT REMINGTON PARK
OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – May 31, 2026 – Oklahoma-bred 2-year-olds battled in the $75,000 Easy Jet Stakes on Saturday, May 30 at Remington Park. PYC Dollars Cowboy consistently gained on the early leaders to score the half-length victory.
Owned by Homero Campa-Mireles of Apodaca, Mexico and trained by Ramon Mendoza, PYC Dollars Cowboy was ridden by Sergio Becerra, Jr.
PYC Dollars Cowboy left the gate well but had to work to catch up to quicker starters Whiskey Doc and Dos Grandiose who managed to leave a bit sharper. In the final 100 yards, PYC Dollard Cowboy made the front and improved his position to cross the 350-yard finish in :17.669 over the fast track for a speed index of 88.
Away at 5-2 in the wagering, PYC Dollars Cowboy paid $7.40 to win, $4 to place and $2.60 to show. Whiskey Doc (12-1 odds) held second and returned $11 to place and $5.20 to show. Apollitikal Dreamer, the betting favorite at 2-1, gained into third, a neck behind the runner-up and paid $2.80 to show.
The remaining order of finish was: D Molish (5-1) fourth; Be Iconic (32-1) fifth; RGs Debutante (11-1) sixth; Dos Grandiose (25-1) seventh; JT Midlife Crisis (4-1) eighth; MW Bcause Im On Fire (20-1) ninth and Kiss My Tail (47-1) 10th.
PYC Dollars Cowboy won his second career race from just three starts this season, he also has one third-place effort. The winner’s share of the Easy Jet, $42,750, pushed the young-career bankroll for PYC Dollars Cowboy to $157,865.
A gelding by Flying Cowboy 123 from the PYC Paint Your Wagon mare PYC Dollars, finished third in the $972,000 Remington Park Futurity in April to pick up his first large bankroll chunk. He was bred in Oklahoma by Matthew Eck.
The victory was the first for all the winning connections of PYC Dollars Cowboy in the Easy Jet Stakes. The race is named for Easy Jet, the legendary American Quarter Horse who won 27-of-38 starts lifetime for owner/trainer/breeder Walter Merrick in 1969 and 1970. Among his triumphs, the 1969 All American Futurity. Joe Merrick, his son, used to be the security watchman for Easy Jet wherever he ran, sleeping by his stall nightly. He once again presented the trophy to this year’s Easy Jet Stakes winner.
