POLITICAL ROSE WINS INAUGURAL HERITAGE PLACE OAKS IN DOMINATING FASHION
OKLAHOMA CITY, Ok – May 30, 2022 – Political Rose was arguably the most impressive winner of the meet in the Heritage Place Oaks trials on May 8 when she won by almost four lengths. She was just as dominant in the finals, taking home the trophy in the inaugural running of the race for 3-year-old fillies.
On the trials night, the talented Political Rose, out of trainer Monty Arrossa’s barn, won so easily (3-3/4 lengths) that she was practically back in her stall asleep when the rest of the field finished the race. Her time of :19.444 that day made her the only qualifier in the top 10 under 20 seconds at the finish. So it was no surprise that she would dominate the field in the $278,600 Oaks final when she covered the same amount of ground in :19.598 for a speed index of 95 on the fast track.
Political Rose, a daughter of Apollitical Jess, out of the Carters Cartel mare Cartel Rosie, blasted out of the gate like a cheetah chasing a warthog, and the finish line was her prey. The best anyone could do on this night was Lil Longmire (7-1), closing on the far outside of the track to lose by a length. Lil Longmire also ran second to her in the trials, but was within two lengths closer on this night. She finished 1-1/2 lengths better than third-place finisher All Pointz Bulletin (10-1), who earlier this meet won the Oklahoma Derby at Remington.
The remaining order of finish in the Heritage Place Oaks was Jess Give Mea Reason (4th), Here Comes Candy (5th), Rainbow to Roses (6th), Ree (7th), Viva Le Zoom (8th) and Traceys Gold (9th).
Political Rose was pounded unmercifully by the bettors and went off at a penny-pinching 1-5 odds. She paid $2.40 to win, $2.10 to place and $2.10 to show.
Her owner, Dunn Ranch (Matt Dunn) of Wynnewood, Okla., took home $117,012 for the win and Political Rose’s record improved to 10 starts, six wins, one second and one third and a bankroll of $398,285. That’s not bad for a horse that was purchased for $57,000 at the 2020 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale.
Political Rose raced three times this meet at Remington Park and won all three starts.
“She’s awesome,” said trainer Monty Arrossa. “We gave her some time off and she really matured by the time we came back to Remington Park. I would like to thank Heritage Place and Remington Park for initiating the Oaks race. I really like that it was split apart from the Derby. It gives horsemen a chance to run horses in both races.”
Arrossa’s horses won both of those races Saturday, adding the Heritage Place Derby a race after the Oaks with Whizkey Glasses.
Jockey Jesus Ayala was in the saddle for all three starts for Political Rose this meet. She was bred in Oklahoma by Stone Chase Stables.
