OUR SECRET WEAPON PICKS GREAT TIME TO WIN FIRST RACE, IN $50,000 OKLAHOMA JUVENILE STAKES AS HUGE LONGSHOT
OKLAHOMA CITY – March 23, 2020 – Our Secret Weapon ran fourth in his career debut in the Oklahoma Futurity trials, failing to qualify for the final. However, he showed his worth at 35-1 odds in the $50,000 Oklahoma Juvenile on Saturday night at Remington Park.
The 2-year-old gelding had to survive an inquiry by the Oklahoma Horse Racing Commission stewards, due to minor contact with even-money wagering favorite Captain American B at the start. The incident was not enough to alter the results. Our Secret Weapon left the gate, right next to Captain America B, and the two brushed. Captain American B then started throwing his head wildly and eventually pulled up. Our Secret Weapon went on to win by a neck over Buford T and paid a whopping $72.20 to win, $19.80 to show and $9.20 to show. Reigning Kisses finished third, another three-quarters of length back.
Jockey Ricky Ramirez rode him to the win for owners Sandy and Randy Coleman of Levelland, Texas and trainer Blane Wood. It was the first win in this race for all connections. The 2-year-old gelded son of Hez Our Secret, out of the PYC Paint Your Wagon mare Folly Del Rey, earned $20,408 for the win and improved to one win from two starts with total earnings of $20,986. He was bred in Texas by his owners.
Our Secret Weapon ran the 300 yards in :15.513 over a fast surface, good for an 87 speed index. It was the second-fastest time in stakes history. Senator Teller won the 2016 edition in 15.309.
The $2 exacta with 35-1 over 7-1 odds horses was worth $548.40 and the 50-cent trifecta paid $786.85 with the third-place horse going off at 7-1 also.
