OPENING NIGHT SET FOR 2020 REMINGTON PARK SPRING SEASON, TOP OKLAHOMA-BREDS FILL MIGHTY DECK THREE STAKES
OKLAHOMA CITY – March 4, 2020 –The Opening Night of the 2020 American Quarter Horse, Paint and Appaloosa Season at Remington Park has been compiled. A dozen races will greet horseplayers and fans on Friday night, featuring trials and the first stakes race of the season. The action begins at 6pm.
The $68,000 Mighty Deck Three Stakes, for Oklahoma-bred 3-year-olds and older, going 250 yards, drew a solid field of 10 including last year’s winner Admiral Sting. Prior to the first stakes event of the season, a series of six important qualifying trials will be contested to determine finalists for the Oklahoma Paint/Appaloosa Futurity.
Admiral Sting, the 2019 AQHA Champion Aged Stallion, will attempt to defend his title in the Mighty Deck Three Stakes after winning the 2019 edition by three-quarters of a length. Owned and bred by Jahree Standridge of Coalgate, Okla. and trained by Eddie Willis, jockey Jimmy Brooks will have his normal ride on the 5-year-old horse. A son of Apollitical Jess from the Strawfly Special mare Sting Scorpion Sting, Admiral Sting has won seven of his 20 career attempts with three of those victories at Remington Park.
Apollitical Pence, winner of the 2019 Heritage Place Derby at Remington Park, is one of many formidable foes for Admiral Sting. Owned by the Dunn Ranch of Bismarck, Mo. and trained by Blane Wood, Apollitical Pence will be ridden by Ricky Ramirez.
The top earner in the Mighty Deck Three field is Uptown Dynasty, a 5-year-old gelding who has made $756,343. Owned by Melvin Neugebauer of Monanola, Colo., Uptown Dynasty will make his first start at Remington Park after 17 prior attempts. Uptown Dynasty has won eight times in his career, tied for the most wins in the Mighty Deck Three field with EOS A Political Win, VF Jedi Returns and Eye Eye Captain.

The Mighty Deck Three Stakes is the 11th of the 12 races Opening Night with a scheduled post of 10:29pm. Total purses for the March 6 card at Remington Park are $219,100 with 107 horses entered for an average field size of 8.92 per race.
Trials for the historic Grade 2 Oklahoma Futurity will be held on Saturday, March 7 with the first race at 4pm. The Opening Weekend concludes Sunday, March 8 with trials for the Grade 3, Oklahoma Derby headlining a program that starts at 1:30pm. All times Central.
