LIVE MOONSHINE GIVES OWNERS DAN AND KAYE JONES THIRD STRAIGHT WIN IN PAUL HARBER MEMORIAL
OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – April 9, 2022 – Live Moonshine won the $22,000 Paul Harber Memorial for the second time in the past three years. His Friday night triumph at Remington Park gave his owners, Dan and Kaye Jones, their third consecutive win in this event.
The Joneses of Kemp, Texas, also won with Southern Electric last year, splitting the two wins for Live Moonshine in 2020 and this year. Jockey Cody Smith was in the saddle Friday night, his third trip to the winner’s circle in the Paul Harber. He also won aboard World Champion Painted Turnpike in 2018 and 2016. Andrew Samaniego got a leg up in 2020-21 for the owners on their past winners.
Live Moonshine finished third to his stablemate, Southern Electric, in 2021. His stakes win tonight was the 11th of his career and sixth at Remington Park.
Live Moonshine, a 6-year-old gelded Paint by CRM Livewire, out of the Awesome Chrome mare PRP Sedona Sunset, won this 350-yard race in 2020 in a time of :17.527. His winning time Friday night was :17.657 over the fast track.
Live Moonhshine hasn’t lost much in his step the past two years. There might have been a little bit of doubt about that last month when Break Away James beat him at Remington Park in an open allowance race on march 13. With a race over the track and second time back off the winter layoff, along with room to negotiate without bumping from the outside post-position (10), Live Moonshine was more than fit and ready to gain vengeance. He did just that with a victory by a head over long shot WL Hector Lives (15-1).
Live Moonshine was sent off at odds of 4-1 Friday and returned $10.80 to win, $6.40 to place and $4.60 to show. He earned $11,730 from the $22,000 purse and improved his lifetime record to 31 starts, 16 wins, three seconds and four thirds for a bankroll of $268,581. He has now won 9-of-16 starts in Oklahoma City for $196,521 at Remington Park. Live Moonshine was bred in Texas by his owners. His record at 350 yards is now 8-of-18. He has proven to be a horse for the course and the distance.
Bully Pulpit (20-1) got up for third. RF Livies Livewire was made the 5-2 favorite by the fans and only beat one horse of the 10 in the race. Break Away James (7-2) could not repeat his allowance effort from March and finished seventh. Other finishers included Js Runnin Wire (4th), Invisible Paint Brush (5th), MH Famous Moonshine (6th), Power Fade (8th) and Queen For Cash (10th).
The Paul Harber Memorial is named after a founding member of the American Paint Horse Association. Harber, a native of Seminole, Okla., helped guide the organization for over four decades.
