KATCHI DAT WINS FOR SIXTH TIME IN HIS LAST 10 STARTS, TAKING FEATURED OPTIONAL ALLOWANCE RACE

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – March 18, 2021 Katchi Dat is becoming a creature of habit; all he does is win, win, win. That continued Thursday night when the 4-year-old gelding won the featured optional allowance/claiming race, making him a winner in six of his last 10 starts.

The son of Favorite Cartel, out of the The Corona mare Mt Rob This Corona (Paint), ran his winning streak to three in a row. He had not raced since last June 26 at Fair Meadows in Tulsa, but he went on vacation victorious after scoring in open allowance company for trainer Mark Williams and owners Patsy and Max Williams of Oklahoma City. Prior to the Tulsa victory, he had won a similar race at Remington Park on May 15. Katchi Dat seems to love the distance of 350 yards as he has now won four times in seven tries at that measure. His six wins in those last 10 have come from jockeys David Brown, Daniel Torres and now Salvador Martinez. Martinez was in the irons for the first time on Thursday night.

Katchi Dat earned $14,258 from the $26,700 purse, barely holding off the freight-train close from Docs Kansas Rep in the outside post. That horse broke sixth in the field of eight and was gaining ground every step of the way. He might have gotten there at 400 yards, but ran out of real estate at 350 yards, finishing a half-length back in second. Running time for the winner was :17.512 over a fast track for a speed index of 91.

As the lukewarm wagering favorite at 5-2 odds, Katchi Dat paid $7.20, $3.40, and $3.40 across the board to win, place and show. Docs Kansas Rep was another half-length ahead of third-place finisher First Prize Charmer.

Katchi Dat improved his lifetime record to 12 starts, six wins and one third for $65,262 in earnings.

Katchi Dat was the only contestant in the field of eight on Thursday that was entered with the claiming price tag of $35,000, making him eligible for purchase by another owner out of the race. He was claimed by new owner C.T. Racing Stables of Texas, with new trainer Heath Taylor taking the gelding back to his barn.

Live racing continues with Friday-Sunday, March 19-21, with the first race nightly at 6pm-Central. The $477,200 Oklahoma Futurity, a Grade 2 event, headlines a big stakes-program of races on Saturday night.
