Jess My Hocks Top Qualifier In Adequan Will Rogers Derby Challenge Trials
CLAREMORE, OK—SEPTEMBER 13, 2020—Jess My Hocks, a stakes-placed son of leading second-crop sire Kiss My Hocks, posted a three-quarter length win on Sunday at Will Rogers Downs while setting the fastest qualifying time for the Adequan® Will Rogers Derby Challenge.
The 10 fastest qualifiers will return to Will Rogers Downs on Sunday, October 4th to vie for the winner’s share of the $30,000 purse. Also at stake will earning a starting spot in the $150,000-est. Adequan® Derby Challenge Championship(G3) during the Bank of America Challenge Championship Night at The Downs at Albuquerque October 24th.
Under jockey Mario Delgado, Jess My Hocks completed the 400 yards in :19.801 seconds, equaling a 98 speed index with 8 mph tailwind, to establish the top mark.
Trainer Michelle Hurdle conditions Jess My Hocks for owner-breeder’s Tom and Kathleen McNally. Bred in Oklahoma, from the Take Off Jess mare Jess Charlena, Jess My Hocks has won five of 10 career starts and earned $96,390.
Jess My Hocks was fourth in the Grade 2 Heritage Place Derby in his previous start and also qualified for the Remington Park Oklahoma-Bred Derby(RG2) in April. Last season he finished third in the Black Gold 440 Championship Futurity at Will Rogers Downs.
Coleen and Boots Friar and Bling Livestock’s Mr Purgatory bounced off a troubled trip in a Rainbow Derby trial in his last start to defeat Ima Secret Daisy by a neck in the opening Adequan trial while establishing the second fastest time of :19.830 seconds, a 97 speed index with an 8 mph tailwind.
Trainer Jason Olmstead conditions the Texas-bred son of champion sire Valiant Hero from the Feature Mr Jess mare Im Jess A Cowgirl. Renee Verette bred the four time winner who has earned $26,758.
