Jess Is The Boss 11-1 Slight Surprise In Oklahoma Horsemen’s Association Mystery Futurity
CLAREMORE, OK—SEPTEMBER 27, 2020—Jess Is The Boss (11-1), rallied under jockey Juan Pulido to defeat Cindydoesitagain by a half-length in the $142,100 Horsemen’s Association Mystery Futurity(RG2) Sunday afternoon at Will Rogers Downs. Dangerous Cartel was a neck back to get third.
Conditioned by trainer Fidencio Jimenez, Jess Is The Boss completed the 350 yards in :17.532 seconds, equaling a 97 speed index into a 10 mph headwind. It was the second win this season for the 2-year-old son of leading sire Apollitical Jess. The sorrel colt entered the final as the sixth fastest qualifier when he finished a game second in the September 12th trials.
Racing for owner Rolando Ortiz, Jess Is The Boss has compiled a (6) 2-1-2 record this season and today’s Mystery Futurity winner’s purse valued at $57,340 boosted his earnings total to $167,093. In April he was third in the rich Remington Park Oklahoma-Bred Futurity(RG1).
Verle Bohner bred the gelding from the Corona Cartel mare Bosanova Baby.
Able Flore’s Cindydoesitagain earned $26,278 for her runner-up effort. Trainer Eddie D. Willis named Mario Delgado to ride the daughter multiple stakes sire Capo de Capi from the Scrutinizer mare Easydoesitcindy.
Fourth in the Speedhorse QH Futurity(G3) earlier this year, the brown filly has banked $56,133. Cindydoesitagain’s half-brother, Cajun King, was third in the Oklahoma Horsemen’s Association Mystery in the previous race at Will Rogers Sunday.
Dangerous Cartel, a son of leading third-crop sire Corona Cartel, earned $17,352 for finishing third. Terry Underwood trains the bay colt from the Leaving Memories mare Dangerous Dawn for owner Bill Underwood.
Champion jockey James Flores rode the stakes-placed colt who second in the aforementioned Remington Park Oklahoma-Bred Futurity(RG1). Jerry Bailey bred the $176,086 earner.
Jess Is The Boss rewarded backers with $22.20 to win, $11 to place and $5.60 to show. Cindydoesitagain paid $23.40 to place and $8.60 to show and Dangerous Cartel returned $4.20 to show.
Dalts Fancy Pistol, Bv Austin, Sin Sational Kisser, Bpmysoutherndynasty, Facing The Fire, Peves Big Hoss and Dynamo Snow completed the field.
