by Richard Linihan

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – February 26, 2025 – Trainer Jason Olmstead dominated the training races Wednesday at Remington Park, winning five of the 10 schooling events. His barn produced the top four fastest winners of the day in American Quarter Horse races, including the swiftest of the dayFlyin Cowgirl 123 in race nine.

The prep races are for 2-year-olds getting ready for the opening of the upcoming 2025 American Quarter Horse, Paint and Appaloosa Season on Thursday, March 6.

Flyin Cowgirl 123 was one of four horses on the day that were purchased for more than $100,000 at auction, but she was the only high-dollar competitor to win her heat. This 2-year-old Oklahoma-bred filly is by Flying Cowboy 123, from the Corona Cartel mare Luckjury. She was bred by George H. Suthers of Sayre, Okla. and is owned by Paul Treadwell of Derby, Kan. Treadwell bought her for $133,000 at the Heritage Place September Yearling Sale last year.

Flyin Cowgirl 123 stopped the timer for 250 yards in :13.534 over a fast track, good for a 79 speed index. Her race was run in a 67-degree temperature and an 18-mph tailwind. The tailwind remained steady throughout the day from 18-20 mph. The filly was ridden by jockey Ramiro Garcia in her victory.

“All these horses in today will be pointed toward the Remington Park Futurity trials,” said Olmstead, from Pryor, Okla. “I knew we had some runners in the barn; they were all working good.”

Olmstead’s three training-race winners who put up the second-, third- and fourth-fastest times of the session were:

  • D Sixy Girl, :13.536, 79, jockey Francisco Ramirez, race five
  • Illegal Cowgirl 123, :13.577, 78, jockey Ramiro Garcia, race eight
  • Famous N Relentless, :13.581, 77, jockey Ramiro Garcia, race seven

The two races for Paints and Appaloosas were won by trainer Matt Whitekiller’s PT Got a Filly (Paint), :13.643, 75, owned by Bryan Hawk of Shawnee, Okla., race one, and KJ All of the Marbles (Paint), :13.842, 67, owned by Dan and Kaye Jones of Kemp, Texas, in race two.

The other Quarter Horse training race winners, their time, speed index, trainers and race number were:

  • SM Alys KVN, :13.646, 75, Sam Mendoza, Jr., race three
  • AJ Special Delight, :13.754, 70, Marc Jungers, race 10
  • Tyme to Fly, :13.830, 67, Jason Olmstead, race four
  • KVN Design, :13.914, 64, Cosme Velasquez, race six

Training races continue Thursday with nine events on tap for 2-year-old runners. The first race is scheduled for 11am.
