FLASHING MOOLAH TURNS BACK 550-YARD VETERAN HORSES TO WIN FIRST ATTEMPT AT THE AT DISTANCE

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – March 19, 2021 – The other six horses in the 550-yard featured race Friday night at Remington Park had won a combined 14 times at the distance. That didn’t matter to Flashing Moolah who was trying the distance for the first time.

Everyone else in the field was 6-years-old or older. That didn’t matter either as the 4-year-old Flashing Moolah stretched out to the longer distance and blew his competition away by 2-1/4 lengths under the strong ride of jockey Tanner Thedford. Trainer Trey Wood sent out the gelded son of First Moonflash, from the Chicks a Blazin mare Chicks Chamisa. He sprang out of the gate and was two lengths ahead halfway through the race and he just got better the rest of the way. Flashing Moolah, owned by Dee Mooring, W.L. Mooring, Mike Abraham and Randy Eastburg of Bosque, N.M.

The youngest runner in the field, Flashing Moolah won his second race in a row, the last one in a first-level allowance race at 400 yards at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie, Texas, in November 2020. Friday’s victory was also his third win in his last five starts. This win came in optional allowance-claiming company and he earned $10,162 from the $19,750 purse. The race was open to horses entered for a claiming price of $20,000 or those that had not won a race in 2021. Two horses that didn’t run in the money were the only ones in for the claiming tag.

Flashing Moolah improved overall to seven starts, three wins and one second for total earnings of $50,870.

The winner had run a game fourth in the $183,000 Zia Derby at Ruidoso Downs, New Mexico in the mud July 25 last year, beaten only a length, so he figured to be a strong contender in this softer spot. He also had a sharp workout on Feb. 26 at Remington Park, covering 220 yards in :11:20 seconds handily, the third-fastest time of the day at that distance of 117 horses.

Flashing Moolah was sent off as the 4-5 wagering favorite and beat Saginaw Creek, the second favorite at 5-2 odds, who was another head in front of third-place finisher Sunsets Corona Girl (8-1). Running time of the race was :27.159 over a fast track, for a speed index of 95.

Remington Park racing continues Saturday and Sunday, March 20 & 21, with the first race nightly at 6pm-Central. Saturday’s program features the historic Grade 2, $477,200 Oklahoma Futurity, which headlines program of 12 races, and seven stakes-events.
