FDD CLOUD OVERCOMES HORRENDOUS START, USES LAST TO FIRST MOVE TO WIN HERITAGE PLACE JUVENILE

OKLAHOMA CITY, Ok – May 30, 2022 – FDD Cloud hopped at the start of the $100,000 Heritage Place Juvenile and then bumped with the horse just to the inside of him, but it was what he did next that put him in the winner’s circle.

All those troubles left him last after five steps from the starting gate, but jockey James Flores found another gear with this 2-year-old gelding and he flew past the other nine contenders, just getting up for the win at the finish by a head.

The win in the Heritage Place Juvenile was the second for trainer Clint Crawford and the second for Flores. Owner Preston Cloud of Sallisaw, Okla., made it to the winner’s circle for the first time in this stakes race. Crawford also won the Juvenile in 2018 with The Grand Legend and Flores won in 2019 with EC Revenge.

It was the third start for the son of FDD Going Grand, out of the Jess Elie mare A Noble Jess Elie, and he only lost once, in the Heritage Place Futurity trials when he ran third behind Tres Crystals and Turcotte. Both of those horses qualified for the finals of the Heritage Place Futurity.

FDD Cloud went off at 3-1 odds, the second favorite on the toteboard at post time. The 9-5 people’s choice, Sonny Seis, could finish no better than sixth. The winner hit the wire at 350 yards in a time of :17.857 over a fast track for a speed index of 84. Apollitical Chick V (6-1) ran second, another head in front of Proximity (29-1) in third.

The remaining order of finish in the Heritage Place Juvenile, for those 2-year-olds who competed in trials but didn’t make the lucrative futurity final, was Paige (4th), Biden R Time (5th), Sonny Seis (6th), Jess A Good Candyman (7th), Wasting Light (8th), A Dream To Fill (9th) and Illegal Moonflash (10th).

FDD Cloud returned $8.20 to win, $4 to place and $4.40 to show. He earned $25,000 from the purse and now stands at three starts, two wins and one third for a bankroll of $36,850. He was bred in Texas by Mercy Hinklins Farm.
