EYE EYE CAPTAIN TURNING INTO SHORT DISTANCE SPECIALIST, WINNING FEATURED ALLOWANCE SPRINT
OKLAHOMA CITY – April 19, 2020 –Eye Eye Captain is quickly turning into the Usain Bolt of Remington Park, winning the 110-yard featured dash Sunday night.
Usain Bolt, the greatest sprinter in Olympics history who made his living at a similar distance, has nothing on this 6-year-old gray mare, who has now won three-of-four at the 110-yard distance. She did it Sunday in open allowance company. It took track announcer Dale Day longer to say, “Eye Eye Captain has done it again,” than it did for her to win the race, stopping the timer in 6.809 seconds. She was just off the track record of 6.687, set by Bruce Allmty on April 22, 2018.
Jockey Rolando Raudales had won in open allowance company with this mare at 110 yards on Nov. 1, last fall at Will Rogers Downs in Claremore, Okla. On Nov. 3, 2018, she also won at this distance at WRD. The only time she had ever lost at 110 yards was on April 22, 2018 at Remington Park when she ran fifth, but had a troubled trip and was placed fourth after a disqualification. Larry Payne rode her that night. Raudales is three-for-three with her at 110 yards.
Eye Eye Captain broke on top out of the gate for trainer Guillermo Valdivia and won by a head over longshot Apollitical B Beast (33-1 odds), who was another head in front of third-place finisher Corazon de Cartel (16-1). Eye Eye Captain is owned by Sam Green of Monett, Mo. She was bred in Oklahoma by David Clonts.
Eye Eye Captain paid a generous $8.20, $4.80 and $4 across the board as a lukewarm 3-1 favorite. She earned $14,852 from the purse of $25,400 in the allowance race. Eye Eye Captain improved her racing record to 36 starts, nine wins, nine seconds and four thirds for $187,548 earned lifetime. Despite her three-for-four mark at this distance, her record at Remington Park is only 16 starts, three wins, two seconds and two thirds.
Racing is scheduled to continue, with no public spectators, with Thursday’s 10-race card on tap. First race post time is 6pm-Central.
