BP CARTEL POLICY HAD EVERYTHING IN HIS CORNER AS FASTEST REMINGTON PARK TRAINING RACE WINNER
OKLAHOMA CITY, OK — March 8, 2023 – It was hard to find anything that BP Cartel Policy didn’t have in his favor as the fastest training race winner of the day during Wednesday’s 10 schooling events at Remington Park.
The 2-year-old colt by Favorite Cartel, out of the Corona Cartel mare CC Policy, stopped the timer for 250 yards in :13.468 over a fast track, earning an 85-speed index. Only two other winners on the day broke the 80-speed index plateau, and they were 81 and 80. The effort had to be expected with two-time All American Futurity winning jockey James Flores in the irons for the all-time winningest trainer among the Paint breed, Dee Keener.
BP Cartel Policy is an American Quarter Horse, but Keener proved last meet that he can train both breeds. He won the biggest race of the year at Remington Park when Tres Crystals captured the Grade 1 Heritage Place Futurity for 96-year-old owner Elizabeth Logan of Haskell.
As for Flores riding BP Cartel Policy, his credentials are many. He has been voted the American Quarter Horse Association Champion Jockey three times and is the reigning champion. He won the All American Futurity in 2019 with Mr Jess Jenkins and 2022 aboard Hes Judgeandjury.
BP Cartel Policy broke on top and was a three-quarters length winner in his training race. His sire, Favorite Cartel was the Leading Sire of money earners in 2020 and is an AQHA Racing Champion Sire. He has produced such millionaire runners as Bomb Cyclone, who won the Grade 1 Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity and the Grade 1 Los Alamitos Super Derby; Powerful Favorite, a winner of the Grade 1 Los Alamitos Winter Derby, the Grade 1 All American Gold Cup and the Grade 1 Brad McKinzie Winter Championship, and Cyber Attack , who is the 2022 AQHA Champion 2-year-old colt who won the Grade 1 Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity.
If all that is not enough to prove BP Cartel Policy has a bright future, his dam (mom), CC Policy, won the first three starts of her career, all at Remington Park, including the Oklahoma Futurity in 2007. Bill Price of Thackerville, Okla. campaigned CC Policy and he owns and bred BP Cartel Policy in Oklahoma as well.
Keener won two training races for the day, also taking race one with R Cowgirl, an Appaloosa in the only race Wednesday for mixed horses (Paints and Apps). R Cowgirl went :13.747 with a 74 speed index. Clint Crawford’s barn was hot as well, saddling two horses to victory. He won the seventh race with Miss Me Yett, :13.599, 79 and the ninth race with WR Ruby Red Rose, :13.742, 74. Most of the races on Wednesday were run under cloudy skies with 50-degree temperatures and a tailwind from 8-11 mph.
The other training race winners (Quarter Horses unless otherwise noted), their times (in order from fastest to slowest winners), speed index, trainers and race number were:
Heza Relentless Mess, :13.642, 78, Gerald Reed, race two
Corona Lights, :13.643, 78, Kevin Goodnight, race five
Jessta Hero, :13.766, 73, Jesus Ruiz, race six
Tootsye Pop, :13.778, 72, Rodrigo Covarrubias, race four
The 2023 Remington Park American Quarter Horse, Paint and Appaloosa Season will begin Thursday, March 9.
