BLUE DADDY CARTEL WINS SECOND HOOK RACE IN LAST THREE TRIES, TAKING FEATURED REMINGTON PARK ALLOWANCE

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – March 15, 2021 – Blue Daddy Cartel proved Saturday night that he can run in thin air and when he comes down from the mountains. He won an 870-yard race for the second time in his last three tries, one in New Mexico and on Saturday night at Remington Park.

On Oct. 13, this gelded son of Big Daddy Cartel, out of the Real Runaway mare Real Dancing Dottie, won at 3,600 feet in Hobbs, N.M. at Zia Park, breaking his maiden around the hook. After taking a short vacation, trainer Tony Sedillo brought him in to Remington Park and the 4-year-old grey that is as white as snow, did it again at Remington Park’s altitude of 1,200 feet. His running time for the 870 yards was :47.018 for a speed index of 75.

Jockey Tanner Thedford rode aggressively, breaking second from the gate, and had the lead by the time he reached the stretch. By the time they hit the wire, the 9-5 wagering favorite had stretched his margin to two full lengths. Z Corona was second at 11-1 odds and third-place finisher Noreason Fordiamonds (4-1) was another length back.

The win in the $21,000 allowance race was worth $11,488 for Blue Daddy Cartel, improving to 11 starts, two wins, three seconds and one third for earnings of $24,211, almost doubling his wallet for his career. He is owned by Sedillo and Gregory Terrones of Sunland Park, N.M., and was bred in the land of enchantment by Stanley Munro.

Castro Triples
It was a big night for jockey Ruben Castro as he enjoyed a riding triple. He had to dead-heat in the final race of the night to get his third win to complete the hat trick. Castro won aboard Rocket Bar Cartel ($4 to win) in race one, BV Dont Cry Joni ($11) in race five and with BV Stand By Me ($3) in race eight.

Castro went from no wins on the season to a tie for sixth in the early jockeys’ standings. The top five after Day 6 are Francisco Calderon with six wins, followed by Juan Pulido and Jorge Torres tied for second with five each. Justin Klaiber and Cristian Esqueda are tied for the fourth and fifth spots at four trips to the winner’s circle.
