ALMOST 200 HORSES HEADED TO POST FRIDAY and SATURDAY, TRYING TO QUALIFY FOR $826,260 HERITAGE PLACE FUTURITY
OKLAHOMA CITY – May 8, 2020 – A total of 191 horses are going to post Friday and Saturday night at Remington Park in an attempt to qualify for the Grade 1, $826,260 Heritage Place Futurity final on the season’s final night, May 30.
The five fastest horses from each night of trials will qualify for the final, 2-year-old American Quarter Horses competing at 350 yards. The first post time both nights is 6pm-Central.
Among the 191 competitors in 20 races over the two nights are six finalists from the Oklahoma Futurity on March 21, including the top three finishers. The trials also will feature three finalists from the Remington Park Futurity on April 18, including Jess Is the Boss, who finished third, beaten only a neck. There also will be competitors from stakes races this meet, including the winner of the Laico Bird Stakes on April 18 and the first and last-place finishers from the Oklahoma Juvenile on March 21.
Interestingly, Our Secret Weapon won the Oklahoma Juvenile at 35-1 odds and the horse that finished last was the heavy favorite in the race, Captain America B. That 2-year-old colt was obliterated at the start of the race, pulling up without a chance at even-money. They will go head-to-head Saturday in the seventh trial of the night.
Here’s a look at some of those strong aforementioned contenders:
FRIDAY
Trial #4 – Coronados Lady, qualified for the $383,725 Oklahoma Futurity final and ran third, beaten 2-1/4 lengths by Aint She Tempting. Jockey Daniel Torres rides for trainer Jonathan Chavira and owner Angelica Gil of Newcastle, Okla. She is a daughter of Coronado Cartel, out of the Separatist mare Rose Colored Lady.
Trial #4 – Jess Is the Boss, out of trainer Josue Ponce’s barn for owner Rolando Ortiz of Springdale, Ark. This colt by Apollitical Jess, out of the Corona Cartel mare Bosanova Baby, ran third in the $891,900 Remington Park Futurity final, losing only by a neck to Eye Work For You, one of the more impressive 2-year-olds on the grounds this meet. Mario Delgado retains the mount for these trials.
Trial #7 – Best of You has won two of three starts lifetime, running second by a half-length in a trial in her debut. She won the $48,500 Laico Bird Stakes on April 18, her last out. She is a daughter of Apollitical Jess, out of the Foose mare Foo Who, and is trained by leading conditioner Eddie Willis, who won his 10th training title here last year. Once again jockey Justine Klaiber will be in the irons. The filly is owned by Zynda Racing of Anadarko, Okla.
SATURDAY
Trial #1 – Aint She Tempting should be one of the favorites to qualify for the Heritage Place Futurity final after a huge effort in winning the Oklahoma Futurity on March 21 with a 95 speed index. She had two-time top Remington Park jockey and the AQHA Championship jockey of 2019, James Flores, in her first two starts. Monty Arrossa trains for owner Levings Racing and Dunn Ranch of Wynnewood, Okla. This daughter of Tempting Dash, out of the Corona Cartel mare Preslee the First, has been made the 4-5 favorite in her heat and she was supplemented into the Heritage Place Futurity trials by her connections.
Trial #7 – Captain America B was heavily favored at even-money to win the $50,000 Oklahoma Juvenile on March 21, but was bumped hard in the race and pulled up to finish last. Raul Valenzuela gets the mount for the trials after this colt had leading rider James Flores up in his three previous races. Josue Ponce trains for Almada Racing of San Antonio, Texas. The colt is a son of FDD Dynasty, out of the One Famous Eagle mare Dashaway Eagle.
Trial #7 – Our Secret Weapon was a shocking winner in the $50,000 Oklahoma Juvenile at 35-1 odds when Captain America B faltered with the bad luck. The highly anticipated rematch occurs Saturday in the same trial. Our Secret Weapon is a gelded son of Hez Our Secret, out of the PYC Paint Your Wagon mare Folly Del Rey. He is trained by Blane Wood, owned by Sandy and Randy Coleman of Levelland, Texas, and will be ridden by his regular jockey, Ricky Ramirez. Our Secret Weapon is the morning-line favorite at 2-1 odds in the rematch vs. Captain America B who is at 7-2 odds.
Trial #10 – Relentlessly will need to break the bubble in the final trial and his chances look excellent to do that. He won his trial for the Oklahoma Futurity and then ran second to Aint She Tempting in the final, beaten a length. He races for trainer Jose Huerta and owner Aguila Negra Racing Inc. of Fairview Heights, Ill. Jockey Rafael Hernandez gets the mount. He qualified this colt in his Oklahoma Futurity trials but didn’t ride her back for the final. Relentlessly is a son of Hes Relentless, out of the Carters Cartel mare Runaway Renata.
Remington Park racing continues, without public spectators, Friday through Sunday, May 8-10. The first race nightly is 6pm.
