AJ PRINCESS, DAUGHTER OF PROLIFIC SIRE APOLLITICAL JESS, TURNS IN FASTEST TIME OF DAY IN 13 REMINGTON PARK SCHOOLING RACES
OKLAHOMA CITY – February 14, 2024 – When Reliance Ranches and trainer Cody Noel picked up AJ Princess at a New Mexico sale last year for $60,000, it was the breeding of the filly that stood out for them.
The daughter of Apollitical Jess, out of a Tres Seis mare, ran to that breeding by posting the fastest time of the day, :13.722 for 250 yards (75 speed index). The eighth race of the day was contested over a fast track, into a 20 mph headwind, with temperatures in the high 60s at Remington Park.
Who wouldn’t love those bloodlines for an American Quarter Horse. All Apollitical Jess has done as a sire is produce three All American Futurity winners and American Quarter Horse Association World Champion Empressum. His winners of the top race in the country for Quarter Horses annually were KJ Desperado in 2021, Mr Jess Jenkins in 2019, and Apocalyptical Jess in 2018. KJ Desperado also is the all-time winningest Quarter Horse in racing history, being the only one to ever surpass $3 million in earnings.
Tres Seis also is one of the greatest sires in history. He is AJ Princess’ grandsire on the maternal side, that of dam Daring Seis. Tres Seis produced the second all-time winningest horse, Ochoa ($2,781,365), also an All American Futurity winner in 2011.
“We really liked her breeding,” said Noel, 46, who makes his home in Guthrie, Okla. “Mario Delgado rode her today in the training race.”
Only one other horse recorded a time on Wednesday, into the gale-force winds, that produced a speed index higher than 70. There were 101 horses entered to race on the first day of schooling races. Another 13 races are set for Thursday, Feb. 15 beginning at 11 a.m.
Oddly enough, AJ Princess’ dam (mother), Daring Seis, proved in four races, she couldn’t run a jump. She only had four starts lifetime and ran eighth, ninth, sixth and seventh, two at Ruidoso Downs in New Mexico and two at Los Alamitos in California. She only earned $600 in her racing career.
On the male side of the bloodlines, it is a whole different story. Apollitical Jess earned $1,399,831 in his racing career and Tres Seis made $856,901.
Last year’s top trainer by wins at Remington Park, Dee Keener with 37, picked up where he left off last year with the most winners Wednesday, taking down three training race wins. Noel was the only other conditioner with more than one victory Wednesday with his two.
The other training race winners on Wednesday (Quarter Horses unless otherwise noted), their times (in order from fastest to slowest winners), speed index, trainers and race number were:
Flying Nova 123, :13.782, 72, Jesus Ruiz, race five
Fedra, :13.941, 66, Trey Wood, race 11
AJK Viejo Titan, :13.945, 66, Sacramento Chavez, race six
Vesper Martini (Paint), :13.960, 65, Dee Keener, race one
Apolitical Time, :14.000, 63, Raul Ramirez, Sr., race four
BP American Sniper, :14.065, 61, Dee Keener, race seven
MB Miss Julisco, :14.069, 61, Albert Wright, race nine

AJ Fast and Furious, :14.162, 57, Clint Crawford, race 10
Chunky Bunny, :14.217, 55, Buddy Clay, race 12
