A DOZEN OKLAHOMA FUTURITY TRIALS SET FOR SATURDAY AT REMINGTON PARK, FIRST RACE 4PM
OKLAHOMA CITY – Remington Park will feature a dozen trials for the historic Oklahoma Futurity this Saturday. The entire racing program will determine the finalists for the historic race with the first trial leaving the starting gate at 4pm.
The Grade 2 Oklahoma Futurity final will take place on March 21. The longest-running futurity in the sport of American Quarter Horse racing, first held in 1947, will be contested for the 79th time.
Trial number five on Saturday will see the career debut of Tres Coronas, who posted the fastest training race of the Remington Park preseason. Trained by Jose Sanchez III, Tres Coronas is a 2-year-old son of leading sire Corona Cartel. He covered the 250 yards of his training event on Feb. 14 in :13.440 seconds while traveling into a 13mph headwind.
Owned and bred in Oklahoma by Juan Medina of Zapata, Texas, Tres Coronas is from the Tres Seis mare Baja Jazz. The colt will be ridden by Eddie Sanchez, the 21-year-old brother of the trainer.
A total of 102 Quarter Horses will make their first career starts in the Oklahoma Futurity trials, attempting to establish one of the top 10 times over 300 yards in order to make the final.
The Oklahoma Futurity trials card represents the second racing program on Remington Park’s Opening Weekend for the 2020 spring season. Opening Night takes place Friday with racing underway at 6pm, featuring the Mighty Deck Three Stakes for older Oklahoma-breds. Sunday afternoon racing begins at 1:30pm and will feature trials for the Grade 3 Oklahoma Derby.
