TRAINER TREY WOOD REAPS BOUNTY OF WINNERS WITH FIVE IN FOURTEEN TRAINING RACES, DEE KEENER GETS FASTEST OF DAY WITH BELTANE
by Richard Linihan
OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – February 25, 2025 – Something about the third week of February seems to agree with trainer Trey Wood and his racehorses when it comes to training races at Remington Park.
Wood had five winners in the 14 training races Tuesday, including the second-fastest runner of the day – A Streakin Sin Tacha. Two-time defending champion trainer Dee Keener had the fastest American Quarter Horse winner of the day – Beltane – winning the 12th race in a time of :13.599 at 250 yards. That was good enough for a speed index of 77.
Keener had three winners during the training races. Beltane is a 2-year-old Oklahoma-bred filly by Cyber Monday, out of the Tac It Like a Man mare Symbol of Faith. Keener trains her for owner-breeder Kelly Yother Equine of Culver City, Calif. Sire Cyber Monday won five-of-nine starts in his career for $528,428 in earnings. He won trials in all three Quarter Horse Triple Crown races – the Ruidoso Futurity, Rainbow Futurity and All American Futurity.
On the bottom side, broodmare sire Tac it Like a Man won 6-of-12 with a bankroll of $413,563. He won two Grade 1 races in his career – the PCQHRA Breeders’ Futurity at Los Alamitos and the Governor’s Cup Futurity, also at the same California track. Beltane’s win came with a temperature of 81 degrees and a headwind of 13 mph, the strongest of the day.
The 14 schooling events are preps for the horsemen getting their 2-year-olds ready for the upcoming race meet. The 2025 American Quarter Horse, Paint and Appaloosa race meet begins Thursday, March 6. A Streakin Sin Tacha’s victory was about as impressive as Beltane’s. He entered 19 horses for the day.
Asked if he owns this horse, Wood said, “I wish I did!” A Streakin Sin Tacha, a 2-year-old Oklahoma-bred Quarter Horse son of Dulce Sin Tacha, from the Corona Cartel mare Streakin Cash Corona is owned by his breeders Terry and Irene Stennett of Coleman, Texas. The colt’s time at 250 yards Tuesday was :13.649 as he earned a 75 speed index with veteran rider Ricky Ramirez in the irons. The headwind was 8 mph for his race.
Wood did not have a theory on why his horses fire fresh on this particular week of February.
“We won 8-of-10 last year?” he said. “I didn’t remember that. I guess they are just ready to run by this time of year.”
The 36-year-old trainer said he had a feeling A Streakin Sin Tacha might be a runner because of the colt’s family. The colt’s sire won eight-of-11 starts lifetime for earnings of $693,689. He won the Grade 1 Texas Classic Futurity in 2020 with a 103 speed index and also won an All American Futurity trial at Ruidoso Downs before finishing second in the All American Juvenile Stakes in New Mexico. On the bottom side of A Streakin Sin Tacha’s pedigree is Corona Cartel.
Corona Cartel was the No. 1 broodmare sire of 2023 in the Quarter Horse breeding industry and is the No. 2 all-time sire of money earners. His racing career was stellar as well. He won 6-of-14 lifetime for a bankroll of $557,142. He won the Grade 1 Los Alamitos Million Futurity in his racing career.
“A lot of these horses we sent out today we were pointing toward the (Grade 2) Oklahoma Futurity (scheduled for Saturday, March 23),” Wood said.
One of the more intriguing winners on the day for Wood was a filly in the 13th race. He sent out Lareda, a $300,000 purchase at the Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale in 2024 for owners Gene and Tod Bradley from Dimmitt, Texas.
“We really liked her at the sale even at that price because of her family as well,” Wood said.
Lareda, a 2-year-old Texas-bred daughter of Flying Cowboy 123, out of the First Down Dash mare Ms Kates Angel, was a winner, but whether she will run to her sale price in the future has yet to be determined. She wasn’t as close to her stablemate, A Streakin Sin Tacha’s time. With Ramirez up again, Lareda hit the wire first, under a strong hold late, in a time of :13.953 for a 62 speed index.
The other training race winners (Quarter Horses unless otherwise noted), their times (in order from fastest to slowest winners), speed index, trainers and race number were:
First Corona Sunset, :13.699, (71), Rhonda Valdivia, race eight
Sexy Ross (Paint), :13.752, 70, Dee Keener, race 1
Livewires Friona (Paint), :13.792, 69, Matt Whitekiller, race 3
The Milys Marfa, :13.805, 68, Raul Rodriguez, Jr., race 6
First Seis Fancy, :13.900, 64, Raul Rodriguez, Jr., race 5
Jac Knife, :13.907, 64, Jose Burciaga, race 14
Famous Lady Train, :13.934, 63, Trey Wood, race 10
Send Me a Dynasty HG, :14.013, 60, Stacy Charette-Hill, (dead heat) race 11
OG Sin City (Paint), :14.026, 60, Dee Keener, race 2
Flying Joy 1, :14.068, 58, Trey Wood, race 4
Training races will continue on Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 26 & 27 at Remington Park. The starting time for both sessions is 11am.

The Debbie Schauf Spirit Award recognizes an individual whose generosity, dedication and care for others reflect the legacy of Debbie Schauf. Debbie was known as the person anyone in racing could call, no matter the time or the challenge. This award honors those who carry that same spirit forward.
This year’s recipient, Coralee Farley, has spent her life serving Quarter Horse racing and the people in it. Her early years included work at Eureka Downs, and she continued to build a career that took her through multiple jurisdictions. She later served as a racing official in Texas, spent several years on the AQHA Racing Committee and eventually came to Oklahoma, where she worked at Will Rogers Downs and now Expo Square in Tulsa.
Coralee has long been a steady presence in chaplaincy programs at both Fair Meadows and Will Rogers Downs. Her kindness, strength and quiet dedication make her a deserving recipient of the Debbie Schauf Spirit Award.
