APOLLITICAL MUSE PULLS OFF MINOR UPSET IN REMINGTON PARK OAKS WITH HOT JUAN PULIDO UP
by Richard Linihan
OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – April 20, 2025 –Juan Pulido capped off an amazing week for himself, winning four races on Friday night and then following that up with two stakes wins Saturday in the Remington Park Oaks and Remington Park Derby.
Pulido won the late Daily Double with Apollitical Muse in the $160,670 Oaks and with Valiant Painted Sign in the $185,420 Derby. Both events are for Oklahoma-breds who qualified in trials earlier this month.
In the Oaks, Pulido was triumphant for trainer Jed Vane and owner Greg Cullum of Fort Gibson, Okla. Apollitical Muse, a 3-year-old Oklahoma-bred filly by Apollitical Jess, out of the Southern Cartel mare BP Shes Southern, was the winner by a half-length at 7-1 odds. The runner-up, BV Elaina Ray (18-1) completed a nice $2 exacta that returned $179.80. When Thereturnofthecartel (5-1) finished third, the 50-cent trifecta was worth $327.30.
The 5-2 wagering favorite, Eyesa Wagon My Tale, who was also the fastest qualifier for this final, ran sixth, but was disqualified for interference on a rival and placed ninth in the field of 10. The rest of the finish past the top three was Flying Bandida (5-1) fourth, High Dollar Dynasty (37-1) fifth, Curlie D (33-1) sixth, MM Lightning Jess (42-1) seventh, Jolie Laide (5-1) eighth, Eyesa Wagon My Tale, ninth and Flashin Dynamite (3-1) 10th.
Apollitical Muse paid $16.20 to win, $7.60 to place and $5.40 to show. It was the first win in four tries for this filly at the distance of 400 yards. She was bred in Oklahoma by Rancho El Cabresto. The winner earned $64,268 from the purse and improved lifetime to 12 starts, four wins, two seconds and one third, more than doubling her bankroll to $126,482. She was a $55,000 purchase from the Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale in 2023.
Running time for the winner was :19.887 for an 89 speed-index over the sloppy track. This was only the third running of the Oaks. The winner’s connections were all winning the race for the first time.
It took Apollitical Muse three tries to break her maiden, twice at Remington Park when she started her career, before finally winning at Fair Meadows in Tulsa in the filly’s third out last year. The trip to the winner’s circle in the Oaks was her first black-type victory. Her only other wins came in the Black Gold Futurity trials at Will Rogers Downs in Claremore, Okla., last fall and in the Oklahoma Derby trials at Remington Park on March 9 of this meet.

🏅OQRHA Hall of Fame Inductee - JD Anderson🏅
JD Anderson has spent more than sixty years in the horse business, and at eighty-nine years old he is still training. He grew up in Oklahoma, where his father ran horses on bush tracks across the state, and he learned the work from the ground up. His family raced multiple breeds, and that carried on to his own career as he trained Quarter Horses, Paints and Appaloosas with equal skill.
JD became known for his steady approach and the pride he took in prepping a horse the right way. He established long-standing relationships with owners and built a record that earned respect across the region. In 1992 he was the leading Quarter Horse trainer at Blue Ribbon Downs, and he raced at every major Oklahoma track during his long career, as well as several tracks throughout surrounding states.
Beyond his work on the racetrack, JD played an important part in helping bring pari-mutuel racing to Oklahoma. He was active in the early formation of the Oklahoma Quarter Horse Racing Association and worked alongside other horsemen to support the growth of the industry.
His induction reflects a career built on consistency, experience and genuine dedication to Oklahoma racing. Few have stayed the course as long as JD, and his place in the Hall of Fame is well earned. ... ’Expand’See Less
