AMARILLIS UPSETS GROUP OF 3-YEAR-OLD FILLIES TO WEAR CROWN AS QUEEN OF REMINGTON PARK OAKS

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – April 26, 2026 – During the trials for the $182,720 Remington Park Oaks, two fillies – Beltane and Emerald Bay – had by far the two fastest times, but on the finals night, it was 13-1 longshot Amarillis who shone brightest Saturday when the spotlight was on.

The Remington Park Oaks was for 3-year-old Oklahoma-bred fillies.

Amarillis, a 3-year-old Oklahoma-bred daughter of Favorite Cartel, out of the Dominyun mare Astranomical, was beaten two lengths by Beltane in the trials, but when she got smooth sailing from the outside on Saturday night, she outlasted Emerald Bay for the Oaks win under jockey Cody Smith.

The Stacey Capps trainee had shown quite a bit of talent last fall when she won the $512,000 Black Gold Fillies Futurity at Will Rogers Downs in Claremore, Okla., on Nov. 11, 2025 at 400 yards. The funny thing is Capps hadn’t even planned for her to run in the Black Gold Futurity trials on Oct. 26 because Amarillis had won a race only two weeks earlier.

“I went in there (to the WRD racing office) to enter another horse in the Black Gold trials and they said, ‘Do you want to enter Amarillis; she’s eligible,’” Capps said. “I wasn’t even thinking about that and I said, ‘Sure,’ even though we had just run her.”

She ended up winning that half-million dollar final to run her streak to four wins in a row and now she has become a Remington Park Oaks winner in the fourth running of this race.

Amarillis earned $73,088 for owner Dusty Rose Ranch (Raymond Deiter) of Oklahoma City and the filly improved her lifetime mark to 10-5-1-1 and a bankroll of $309,988. She was bred by M.C. Stucks. Oddly enough, the Oaks was the first win for Amarillis at Remington Park in five tries here.

Veteran jockey Cody Smith was the winning rider and he pushed Amarillis to the front right out of the gate.

“This filly never lets us down,” Capps said. “I knew once we broke that she would be the winner. I heard her name called right out of the gate and I said, ‘It’s over!’”

Meanwhile, Emerald Bay (4-5 odds-on favorite), broke sharp, but couldn’t get to the winner in the end. Beltane, was pinched at the break and never got into the race, finishing ahead of only two fillies. Emerald Bay was a neck ahead of Flawless Grace (3-1) in third. The rest of the order of finish was RR Sweet Memories (59-1) fourth, DR Americas Dynasty (10-1) fifth, A Cowboys Chic (22-1) sixth, Audreys Lil Cowgirl (29-1) seventh, Beltane (9-2) eighth, I Am a Candy Tree (74-1) ninth and D Sixy Girl (59-1) 10^th.

Remington Park racing continues Sunday, April 19 with a first post time of 4pm-Central.
