IM A FANCEE CHIK WINS LAICO BIRD STAKES, COULD BE UNDEFEATED AFTER THREE STARTS WITH SOME RACING LUCK
OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – April 18, 2021– If not for some acting up in her career debut, Im a Fancee Chik might be undefeated after winning the $68,000 Laico Bird Stakes on Saturday night at Remington Park.
The 2-year-old gray filly by Im a Fancy PYC, out of the Smoke Glacken (TB) mare Dixie Marrone (TB), came onto the racetrack March 9 for her debut and showed her ornery side. After wasting a lot of nervous energy, she still ran second in that maiden race at Remington Park, losing to Valerity. She showed just how much that bothered her as she came back to win a Remington Park Futurity trial on April 2. She then gained vengeance on Valerity with her victory in the Laico Bird Stakes Saturday. Valerity had beaten her by 2-1/4 lengths in their maiden race, but on this night, Im a Fancee Chik made up all of that ground and more, winning by a half-length. Valerity could do no better than eighth place.
JR What You Mean jumped on top in the race down the middle of the track and looked like she might be a winner, but halfway home, she lost her action on her backside and fell to the track, dropping jockey Juan Pulido to the track. The filly rolled, but she and the rider bounced back up ready for more competition. Pulido, leading rider at Remington Park, continued to ride the card. With that incident in hand, the 21-1 longshot, Im a Fancee Chik, took over and outlasted a tough bunch to the wire. Pevs Charley was sent off as the 3-1 second wagering favorite and just missed, another half-length in front of third-place finisher Shy Kisser (4-1). JS Dashin Capi was the beaten 5-2 betting favorite, finishing sixth. Other also rans included: JF Storm Wagon (4th), Ill Be Gone (5th), Luludashingstoli (7th), Valerity (8th), Candy Going Grand (9th) and JR What You Mean who did not finish.
Im a Fancee Chik paid $44 to win, $12.20 to place and $7 to show. The filly earned $37,800 from the purse and improved her record to three starts, two wins and one second for $51,850 earned. She was bred in Oklahoma by Danny Salisbury.
Im a Fancee Chik covered the 330 yards in a time of :16.66 for a speed index of 93.
It was the first win in the Laico Bird for all connections, jockey Mario Delgado, trainer Clint Crawford, and owner Danny and Dennis Salisbury of Woodward, Okla.
The Laico Bird Stakes is named after the 1967 All American Futurity winner and American Quarter Horse Association World Champion who was bred in Oklahoma and campaigned over her career by Jimmy Jones, of Norman, Okla.
The week’s live racing schedule concludes Sunday with first post time of 6pm-Central.
