TRAINER SHAWNA MANRIQUEZ SENDS OUT TWO WINNERS IN TRAINING RACES, INCLUDING FASTEST – FREE FROM CORONA
OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – March 9, 2022 – Trainer Shawna Manriquez sent out two winners in training races Wednesday at Remington Park, including the fastest winner of the day – Free From Corona – in the 10th of 12 schooling events for unraced horses.
Free From Corona, a 2-year-old filly by the World Champion sire Mr Jess Perry, out of the First Down Dash mare Aquafina, stopped the timer for 250 yards in a time of :13.532, good for an 82 speed index over the fast surface. She did that into a 5 mph headwind. The temperature was 55 degrees. The headwind during the training races varied from 5-10 mph throughout.
Mr Jess Perry produced AQHA Champions One Famous Eagle, Apollitical Jess, Matabari, Noconi, Mr Piloto and Remington Park Heritage Place Futurity winner Uptowne Babe. Apollitical Jess himself has thrown three All American Futurity winners – Apocalyptical Jess, KJ Desperado and Mr Jess Jenkins. These bloodlines obviously have seeped into the racing ability of this filly, Free From Corona.
Jockey Daniel Torres broke clean as a whistle from the 8-post position in her eight-horse field and cruised to the victory with ease, winning by 1-1/4 lengths over her nearest competitor. Manriquez also had the winner of the seventh heat in Sug La Blue, who covered the same distance in :13.732 for a 74 speed index. Most of the winners for the day did so with winning times in the 70s. Only one other horse broke 80 for a speed index – One Famous Capi – for trainer Eddie Lee Willis in the fifth race at :13.558 for an 81.
The other training race winners (Quarter Horses unless otherwise noted), their times, speed indexes and trainers were:
