ON A ROLL V, SON OF CHAMPION SIRE APOLLITICAL JESS, PUTS UP FASTEST QUARTER HORSE TIME IN THURSDAY TRAINING RACES
OKLAHOMA CITY – February 10, 2022 – Bloodlines ran true Thursday as On a Roll V, the son of champion sire Apollitical Jess, scored as the winner of the fastest American Quarter Horse heat in 11 training races Thursday.
Four of the races Thursday were designated for Paints and Appaloosas as unraced horses trained in schooling races for the upcoming American Quarter Horse, Paint and Appaloosa meet at Remington Park which begins March 3.
On a Roll V, a 2-year-old colt by Apollitical Jess, out of the Corona Cartel mare Sera Fina, covered 250 yards in :13.830 for a speed index of 70 in race six of the day. The track seemed to play a bit slower than it did on Wednesday when the top time was 13.550 for an 81 speed index.
Every other training race winner Thursday had a speed index in the 60s except for one Paint named Electric Tales, ridden to victory by jockey Cody Smith for trainer Ty Blackwell in a time of :13.770 for a 73 in the final race of the day.
Trainer Cruz Villafranco sent On a Roll V to post with rider Jacobo Aguilar in the saddle and the colt was a winner by a half-length. He was extremely lucky he showed strong speed from the 6-hole because halfway down the track the horse just to his inside in the 5-hole, Coronados Legacy propped and bucked off his rider. On a Roll V was spared that activity as he had already burst to the lead.
On a Roll V’s sire, Apollitical Jess, has produced three of the last four All American Futurity winners – KJ Desperado in 2021; Mr Jess Jenkins, 2019, and Apocalyptical Jess, 2018. Apollitical Jess also was easily the top sire in the country in 2021 for 2-year-olds, according to money earned by his progeny of that age. His 2-year-olds made $4,517,609 on the track while the runner-up sire for juveniles, Favorite Cartel, banked $2,619,938.
Apollitical Jess is still the leading single-season sire of money earners of any year. Among his other stakes runners were All American Derby winner Apollitical Blood, Champion of Champions winner Apollitical Pence, millionaire Hold Air Hostage, Rainbow and Ruidoso Derby winner Empressum and Golden State Million Futurity winner Apollitical Gold. All he does is throw winners of huge stakes races. Only time will tell if On a Roll V, owned by Luis Muniz.
A total of 84 horses went to post on Thursday in the 11 prep races on a day that saw the temperatures for the day go from 54 degrees to 61. The wind fluctuated from 5-10 mph tailwinds.
The other Quarter Horse winners on the day and their times and speed indexes were:
Tres Crystals (:13.860, 69 speed index, trainer Dee Keener); Capo on Fire (:13.860, 69, Fidencio Jiminez); First Libby Lark (:13.870, 69, Sammy Valdivia); Rinc (:13.920, 67, Jacob Mejia); Okie Candy Man (:13.940, 66, Eddie Willis), and Sugar Oh Honey Honey (:13.960, 65, Daniel Luna).
Racing at Remington Park this meet is scheduled to run a schedule of Thursday-Saturday at 6 p.m. nightly and Sunday at 4 p.m. Special start times include Kentucky Derby Day (May 7) and Preakness Stakes Day (May 21) when Remington Park action begins at Noon. The Champions’ Night program on May 28 will begin at 5pm. All times are Central.
