OKLAHOMA CITY - March 24, 2019 -- Curls Happy Wagon found more energy as the Grade 3, $63,750 Decketta Stakes continued Saturday at Remington Park, gaining the lead midway and then pulling away to win by a length.

Owned by Michael Pohl and Martin Stacy of Irving, Texas, Curls Happy Wagon is trained by Stacy Charette-Hill and was ridden by Jorge Torres. The 4-year-old mare finished ahead of runner-up First Of 15 and third-place Trace Dynasty who was a head behind the second-place finisher. Curls Happy Wagon handled 350 yards in :17.392 over a fast track.

Away at 5-2 odds, Curls Happy Wagon paid $7.40 to win, $4.40 to place and $3.60 to show. The win came in her 2019 season debut, her fifth career win from nine starts. An Oklahoma-bred daughter of PYC Paint Your Wagon from the Spit Curl Jess mare Eye A Spit Curl, Curls Happy Wagon was bred by her owners. She made $37,926 for her Decketta triumph to raise her overall earnings to $154,089.

Curls Happy Wagon gave Charette-Hill her second consecutive win in the Decketta Stakes, after saddling Jess Paint Your Lips to victory in 2018. Torres also rode that winner. Pohl also raised the Decketta trophy for a second-straight year as he was the owner of Jess Paint Your Lips.

The Decketta Stakes is named after the 1964 All American Futurity winner who was born in Blanchard, Okla. and campaigned by her breeder, owner and trainer W.W. Wilson. Decketta was a successful broodmare for over 20 years after her racing career was completed.
