15 Oklahoma Futurity Trials Carded at Remington Park

OKLAHOMA CITY – The second night of the 2016 American Quarter Horse Season at Remington Park will be full of live racing excitement on Saturday, March 12. A total of 15 trials will be held to determine the final field for the historic Oklahoma Futurity. Due to the longer than normal racing program, the action will begin earlier than normal, at 5pm on March 12.

The Grade 3 Oklahoma Futurity will be contested for the 75th time in its history on Saturday, March 26. Started in 1947, the race has been the first major futurity on the Remington Park calendar since 2006.

Oklahoma Futurity trials night is typically the longest racing program held during the calendar year at Remington Park. The 2016 trials will mark the third consecutive year that 15 trials have been held. A total of 15 trials have been utilized four previous times: 2008, 2012, 2014 and 2015. The 15 trials equals the record for most Oklahoma Futurity trials held at Remington Park. The trials are consisted of eight horse fields in 13 of the 15 heats, with fields of seven. There is one supplemental entry in the trials with A Wyatt Reed entered in race and trial 11 for Kendrix Brothers of Altus, Okla. The 2-year-old homebred is trained by Luz Chavira and won a training race at Remington Park on Feb. 23.

The Opening Weekend for the Remington Park season begins at 6pm on March 11 (overnight). Saturday racing on March 12 (overnight), featuring Oklahoma Futurity trials, will begin at 5pm. Sunday racing on March 13 (overnight) starts at 1:30pm and features trials for the Oklahoma Derby and the first stakes races of the meeting in the $50,000 Eastex and the $70,000 Mighty Deck Three.

Open daily for casino gaming and simulcast racing, Remington Park features the Bricktown Brewery on the casino floor. Admission, general parking and valet parking are always free at Remington Park, home of the historic $414,000 Oklahoma Futurity. The 75th running of the oldest futurity in Quarter Horse racing takes place on Saturday, March 26, 2016.
