Opening Night Program Set For Remington Park

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Remington Park racing office has compiled the 12-race program for the Opening Night of the 2016 American Quarter Horse Season. The first night of action in the 50-date session is set to begin at 6pm (central) on Friday, March 11.

Paints and Appaloosas will be featured during the bulk of the night, including six trials for the Grade 1, Oklahoma Paint & Appaloosa Futurity. The trials are set at 300 yards and will determine the final field for the March 26 final.

The richest race of the dozen on Opening Night is a $31,000 allowance for Quarter Horses at 300 yards. A field of 10 fillies and mares, 3-years-old and older, will compete in an event that serves as a prep race for the Decketta Stakes later in the month.

A total of 109 have entered the 12 races for Opening Night, an average field size of 9.1. The initial program of the season has $159,000 in total purse money.

The Opening Weekend of the season will continue Saturday, March 12 and features trials for the historic Oklahoma Futurity. Due to the number of trials expected to exceed the normal 12 races that comprise Remington Park cards, the first race of the night will begin at 5pm. Sunday racing on March 13 starts at 1:30pm and features trials for the Oklahoma Derby and the first stakes races of the meeting in the $50,000 Eastex and the $70,000 Mighty Deck Three.

Open daily for casino gaming and simulcast racing, Remington Park features the Bricktown Brewery on the casino floor. Admission, general parking and valet parking are always free at Remington Park, home of the historic $414,000 Oklahoma Futurity. The 75th running of the oldest futurity in Quarter Horse racing takes place on Saturday, March 26, 2016.
