BPMYSOUTHERNDYNASTY UPSETS APPLE CART, TAKING $57,000 JACK BROOKS STAKES
OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – May 23, 2021 – One could have thrown a blanket over the field of nine horses at the finish line of the $57,000 Jack Brooks Stakes on Saturday night from front to back.
The margins from first to last in the Remington Park race were five heads, two necks and a nose, and when all was sorted out with the photo finish, BPmysoutherndynasty was the winner by one of those heads.
BPmysoutherndynasty (13-1 odds) had the services of red-hot jockey Rolando Raudales, as the Jack Brooks triumph was one of four wins for the rider on the evening.
It was the first win for the Dee Keener trainee since Sept. 12 at Will Rogers Downs in Claremore, Okla., when then 2-year-old BPmysoutherndynasty won a futurity trial for the $75,000 Oklahoma Horse Association Mystery Futurity. He was soundly defeated in the finals, finishing seventh. The son of FDD Dynasty, out of the Southern Cartel mare BP Southern Mariah, came back and ran third in the $106,625 Black Gold Futurity at WRD on Nov. 14 to Eye Work For You before being laid off for Remington Park. Eye Work For You won last year’s $891,900 Remington Park Futurity.
In his first race at Remington Park this year, BPmysoutherndynasty finished third in an Oklahoma Derby trial on March 7 but failed to qualify for the finals. He also ran third in his Remington Park Derby trial on April 1, also failing to get to that final. He redeemed himself Saturday by winning the Jack Brooks Stakes in an upset.
The 5-2 co-favorites at post time, Jess Good Enough and Bran Nu Dae, ran second and eighth, respectively. Jess Good Enough was another head in front of third-place finisher O Donovan Rossa. BPmysoutherndynasty returned $28.40 to win, $11.20 to place and $8.80 to show. It was the first win in this race for all connections.
BPmysoutherndynasty stopped the clock in the 350-yard event for Oklahoma-bred 3-year-olds in :17.761 on a fast track. The winner earned $31,800 as he improved to 14 starts, four wins, two seconds and four thirds for a bankroll of $130,143. He is owned by Elizabeth Logan of Haskell, Okla., while bred in Oklahoma by Bill Price.
The Jack Brooks Stakes is named in honor of the American Quarter Horse racing legend and Hall of Fame trainer from Blanchard, Okla. He won the top race in the sport, the All American Futurity, a record eight times before retiring in 2007. Brooks and his wife Wynona were on hand to present the stakes trophy to the winning connections.
Remington Park racing continues Sunday, May 23 with a 12-race program underway at 6pm-Central.
