π˜–π˜’π˜“π˜ˆπ˜π˜–π˜”π˜ˆ π˜Šπ˜π˜›π˜ , π˜–π˜’ — π˜”π˜’π˜³π˜€π˜© 8, 2022 – The Opening Weekend for the 2023 American Quarter Horse, Paint and Appaloosa Season continues with extra racing on Saturday, March 11. There will by 17 qualifying trials for the historic Oklahoma Futurity, making an earlier 3pm post time necessary.
The fastest 10 from the 300 yard trials will move on to the 82nd Oklahoma Futurity final on March 25. The Oklahoma Futurity is the longest-running futurity in Quarter Horse racing with the first running taking place in 1947. The Oklahoma Futurity has been conducted at Remington Park since 2006.
The 17 trials for eligible 2-year-olds are divided in fields of nine (eight trials) and 10 (nine trials). All of 162 horses entered will be making their career debuts.
Remington Park last ran 17 trials for the Oklahoma Futurity in 2017. The record for most races in one setting was 20, on May 10, 2002 when 17 Heritage Place Futurity trials and three overnight races were conducted.
Tres Crystals won the 2022 Oklahoma Futurity before going on to capture the Grade 1, $1,000,000 Heritage Place Futurity at the end of the Remington Park season. Tres Crystals has been campaigned by Elizabeth Logan, 96, of Haskell, Okla. She owns Deck Stack in trial nine. Dee Keener saddled Tres Crystals and will be responsible for seven runners in Saturday’s trials for the Oklahoma Futurity, including Deck Stack.
The 2023 season opens Thursday, March 9. First race on Thursday and Friday is 6pm. In addition to Saturday’s afternoon start, Sunday, March 12 action begins at 4pm. All times are Central.
