Other OQHRA Info

  • OQHRA is the only organization with a proven track record in representing all breeds of Horsemen active in Quarter Horse and Mixed Breed Racing!
  • OQHRA is the only mixed breed representation with a Horsemen Political Action Committee and full time lobbyist at the State Capitol.
  • OQHRA has strong local, regional and national support from Horsemen racing in Oklahoma.
OQHRA is recognized by the tracks, the racing commission and the legislature as a respected advocate of Oklahoma horsemen!
  • In 1997 OQHRA was successful in calling for enforcement of the provision which required all Oklahoma tracks to deposit Horsemen's Purse money in separate trust type accounts and prohibit the tracks from holding purse money in the tracks operating accounts.
  • In 1997, 1998, & 1999 OQHRA supported commission approval of inter-track simulcast agreements which generated $3 million each year in additional purse money for Fair Meadows Horsemen and made it possible for horsemen participating in live racing at Blue Ribbon Downs to earn in excess of $2 million each of those years.
  • In 1999 OQHRA was successful in getting an emergency amendment to the Bleeder Rule which eliminated the unfair limitations on entry and racing of horses after they were placed on the bleeders list.
  • In 1999 and 2000 OQHRA lobbied against legislation to expand simulcasting and reduce the live racing requirements at Oklhaoma ractracks. OQHRA consistently has worked for a fair distribution of simulcast money to fund purses for all horsemen participating in live racing at Oklahoma tracks.
  • OQHRA has continually worked to protect live racing at Oklahoma tracks from negative effects of expanded Indian Gaming and Indian Off Track Wagering.
  • OQHRA believes all affected horsemen should share in the distribution of any money earned from wagering on out of state races at INdian Of Track Betting Parlors, and there should be 100% accountability of funds paid to any horsemen's organization
as a result of Indian Gaming.
